The Ontario government is investing $260 million in the sixth round of its Skills Development Fund Training Stream to support training and upskilling across the province.
The new round is open to a range of organizations and aims to prepare workers for roles in manufacturing, health care, construction, automotive, and skilled trades.
Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini, who is also the Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development, made the announcement on Tuesday.
Piccini adds this is a significant step forward in building a workforce that can meet all challenges.
Employers, employment service and training providers, labour unions, business and industry organizations, hospitals, Indigenous Band offices, Indigenous skills and employment training agreement holders, service system managers and other community organizations eligible for funding can submit their proposals through Transfer Payment Ontario. Applications will close on October 1st.
Piccini also announced over $20 million in funding from the previous round to train nearly 5,000 people in sectors such as hospitality, health care, and trades.
