Hundreds of local hockey players and skaters will soon benefit from new ice, thanks to a major investment from the Ontario government.
The province is committing $931,750 to replace the aging arena floor at the Ennismore Community Centre, part of the $200 million Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund.
The project includes a full replacement of the 54-year-old concrete slab, refrigeration piping, and ice rink chiller. Selwyn Township Mayor Sherry Senis says the long-overdue upgrades will finally bring the facility up to modern standards.
The work is considered essential to ensure the long-term viability of the building, which has served as a hub for sports, recreation, and community gatherings for decades. Senis says without the funding, the consequences could have been significant.
The arena remains a central space for residents of all ages in Selwyn. Senis says the improvements will enhance accessibility and ensure the centre continues to serve the community well into the future.
The funding is part of Ontario’s larger $200 billion infrastructure strategy, which includes investments in schools, hospitals, public transit, and recreation facilities aimed at strengthening communities across the province.
