Tree lovers and families are invited to C.R. Gummow Public School in Cobourg this Saturday for Elder Tree Care Day, hosted by the non-profit Tree Trust.
Founded in 2019, Tree Trust’s mission is to preserve elder trees through professional arborist care, community education, and local fundraising. These mature trees provide unique environmental, aesthetic, and emotional benefits that saplings simply can’t replicate.
Saturday’s event begins at 10 a.m. with remarks from the Town of Cobourg and Tree Canada, followed by a conservation pruning demo on an elder sugar maple tree.
Later, attendees can learn proper planting techniques from professionals at Cressman Landscaping and Ironwood Tree.
The event also includes prize draws, a Professor Pricklethorn performance, and a guided walk to the Merwin Greer Woods. Interactive fence weaving with artist Jenny Duda and refreshments from Community Living Northumberland round out the fun.
