Selwyn Township has put an immediate stop to all brush burning. The move comes in response to ongoing drought conditions and high temperatures raising the risk of fires.
The ban covers all brush piles, branches, logs, yard debris, and similar materials. Existing burn permits are revoked, and no new brush burning is allowed until further notice.
The restriction does not include certified gas or propane fire pits, barbecues, or small campfires at least 20 feet away from structures, but residents are urged to use caution and maintain direct adult supervision.
Fire officials will monitor conditions daily and provide updates through the township’s website and social media channels. Residents can call the fire department at 705-292-7282 or visit selwyntownship.ca/FireDepartment to check current burning conditions.
The township asks everyone to stay alert and help protect the community during this high-risk period.
