Four Fleming College graduates are among this year’s nominees for the Premier’s Awards, which recognize outstanding contributions from Ontario college alumni across the province and beyond.
Nominated in the Health Care and Community Well-being category is Dr. Michelle Acorn, a 1987 Nursing graduate who now leads the Nurse Practitioners’ Association of Ontario. She represents more than 5,400 nurse practitioners and was previously the first-ever Chief Nurse at the International Council of Nurses, supporting nearly 28 million nurses worldwide.
Cheryl Dowling, nominated in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) category, graduated from Fleming’s Counselling program in 2010. She founded The IVF Warrior, a globally recognized fertility platform, and is also an Emmy Award winner and bestselling author whose work uses digital tools and AI to improve access to fertility and mental health care.
Dave Conroy, a 2009 Sustainable Building and Design graduate, is nominated in the Skilled Trades category. As the owner of The Little Building Company in Douro-Dummer, he’s known for his commitment to sustainability, using local materials and labour while supporting small businesses and skilled trades across the Kawarthas.
In the Creative Arts and Design category, 1988 graduate Tracey Randall has been recognized for her work as executive director of Peterborough Musicfest. Since taking over in 2012, she has helped grow the free summer concert series into a major cultural and economic driver, generating over $4.5 million in annual impact for the city.
The Premier’s Awards are presented annually by Colleges Ontario in seven categories. This year’s winners will be announced at a gala in Toronto on November 24.
