A Quinte West resident is facing charges after police allege that they clocked a vehicle at 177 km/h on Hwy. 401.
On July 21, just before 7 p.m., Quinte West OPP said an officer with the highway safety division’s traffic incident management enforcement (TIME) team clocked a car eastbound at 177 km/h.
After a traffic stop, police reportedly made a demand for a breath sample through an approved alcohol screening device. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to the station for further testing, reported OPP.
With help from uniform officers, police said the investigation has resulted in charges for a 31-year-old Quinte West resident, who was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and stunt driving – excessive speed.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused will appear in Belleville court on Aug. 14, 2025, said police.
The accused also had their licence suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.
