There is no question that Downtown Peterborough is known for its wide array of restaurant.
If you’re taking a stroll down any busy street and you’ll notice eateries of all specialties and sizes. But 2025 will mark a year of change for some long-standing staples.
Last week, the Peterborough Examiner reported that after almost three decades, ‘Cosmic Charlie’s’ on Charlotte Street is going to be closing its doors. In an interview with Todd Vandonk, owners Maria and Mario Salalila confirmed they are retiring and seeking ‘new passions’.
Another popular location is now closed and undergoing major changes. The ‘Publican House’ on Charlotte Street posted on its Facebook page that the bar and grill are closed for renovations, however the brewery and retail store are still open. No timeline for the renovations has been made public but a statement says “we’re crafting something NEW for you to experience!”
Members of the community are also being asked to rally and help support ‘Fork It’. A GoFundMe page has been started by owner Stephanie Patterson. Patterson is asking for donations to: catch up on operational expenses, recover from recent unexpected costs, and stabilize ‘Fork It’ so they can continue serving the community.
“This was my dream. I gave up everything to make it happen — for me, for my kids, and for the people in our community. Asking for help like this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. But I believe in what I’ve built, and I know that with a little support, I can keep it going and keep giving back” wrote Pearson on the page. So far just over $2500 has been raised.
