The body of a young man missing since Sunday after two separate suspected drownings in the East Lake Prince Edward County area has been recovered, says OPP.
In an update issued Tuesday, July 22, 2025, police said members of OPP’s underwater search and recovery unit found the body of the 20-year-old Toronto-area man this afternoon with help from Prince Edward County OPP and aviation services.
“The name of the deceased will not be released,” said police, on Tuesday.
As previously reported, on Sunday, July 20, just before 6 p.m., officers said they were called to a location near County Road 11 following a report that a group had gone out in two canoes and decided to go swimming and were then unable to get back into their canoes.
One person made it safely to shore – a bystander went out in his boat and rescued two other individuals from the water, but the fourth person couldn’t be found, reported OPP.
Police are also thanking Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue and Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services for their help during the search effort.
Meanwhile, investigations into both suspected drownings over the weekend are still ongoing.
An incident Saturday shortly before 6 p.m. also claimed the life of a 51-year-old Toronto-area man, who police did not identify.
According to OPP, police responded to a resort on County Road 18 Saturday after a report an individual had drowned.
When officers arrived, firefighters and paramedics, along with civilians, were attempting life-saving measures, said police.
The individual was rushed to hospital but later pronounced deceased.
