Another $158,000-plus worth of drugs and contraband was seized at Warkworth Institution following suspected drone drops.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) said the contraband and unauthorized items were seized at the medium-security federal facility over the course of two days – on July 9 and 10.
A spokesperson said these seizures were once again the result of suspected drone drops.
Officials are once again crediting staff for their vigilance in seizing “multiple packages.”
The CSC said items seized included tobacco, marijuana, crystal methamphetamine, oxycodone, “shatter” (also known as cannabis concentrate) and “grabba” (also known as Jamaican tobacco), along with cocaine, drug paraphernalia and cellphone accessories.
“The total estimated institutional value of these seizures is $158,215,” said officials.
As previously reported earlier this month, this is on the heels of three major seizures dating back to May. Again, suspected drone drops were cited, and more than $404,000 worth of drugs, contraband and unauthorized items were confiscated over those three incidents.
Heightened measures remain in place in an effort to prevent contraband from entering CSC institutions, reiterated officials. Work also continues with police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband or unauthorized items into facilities, added officials.
The CSC telephone tipline remains in place where information can be shared relating to security and activities such as drug-trafficking.
The toll-free number – 1-866-780-3784 – helps ensure information shared is protected, and callers remain anonymous.
