A protest was held on Wednesday afternoon, July 16, in front of Victoria Hall in Cobourg demanding the resignation of Mayor Lucas Cleveland.
Concerned citizen and business owner Theresa Rickerby says she as well as clients, neighbours and other community members feel they’ve been abused by the mayor.
She explains what that looks like.
Rickerby says, as mayor, Cleveland should represent the best of Cobourg and they’re concerned over what they describe as “violent, aggressive and vulgar language” used when addressing residents, other council members and town staff.
But one resident, who wouldn’t provide his name, says Cleveland’s the only member of council standing up for taxpayers.
Protesters say they’ve tried to voice their concerns via the integrity commissioner, but nothing has ever come of it and they want to see Cleveland step down.
