The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has a new commander.
Inspector Mike Cavanagh has officially taken the helm, bringing 20 years of policing experience to the role. He previously served as interim commander at the Haliburton Highlands Detachment and as staff sergeant in Peterborough County.
Cavanagh began his career in 2005 with the Stirling-Rawdon Police Service before moving to the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service and later joining the OPP in 2010. His background includes assignments with multiple detachments and the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau’s Drug Enforcement Unit.
“I offer our congratulations on behalf of the Northumberland OPP Detachment Board as he begins his new role,” said board chair John Davison, adding Cavanagh’s experience will benefit local communities.
Cavanagh, a Fleming College graduate, holds a Police Exemplary Service Medal and has completed Trent University’s Senior Police Leadership course.
