The Ontario government is investing $150,000 to support upgrades at the Baltimore Recreation Centre, with the goal of improving outdoor recreation options for families.
The funding, announced through the province’s $200 million Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF), will support trail lighting installations and upgraded ball diamonds at the well-used facility.
The province says the enhancements will improve safety, accessibility and help meet rising demand for outdoor activity spaces in the community.
David Piccini, MPP for Northumberland-Peterborough South, says the investment supports active, healthy lifestyles. “This funding will help bring neighbours together, promote safe recreation, and ensure families have access to quality outdoor spaces,” he said.
Hamilton Township Mayor Scott Jibb expressed gratitude for the investment, noting, “Support like this goes a long way in communities like ours. We’re committed to making the most of this opportunity to strengthen community connections and improve quality of life.”
According to the Ford government, CSRIF is part of a larger $200 billion infrastructure strategy to build and revitalize critical assets like hospitals, highways, schools and recreation centres across Ontario.
Ontario’s Minister of Sport, Neil Lumsden, says the province is focused on protecting jobs, growing local economies and improving services for families. “Investments like this are building a more resilient and self-reliant economy,” he said.
CSRIF supports municipalities, Indigenous communities and non-profits in upgrading or building sport and recreation spaces. Sport contributes over $7.5 billion annually to Ontario’s economy and helps create thousands of jobs across the province.
