A disturbance downtown has led to charges for a 49-year-old Cobourg man, and a 24-year-old is accused of stunt driving on Division Street.
Here’s the latest from Cobourg police:
On July 11, 2025, at about 10 p.m., police were reportedly on patrol in the King Street area when officers observed a man yelling at patrons on a patio.
After stopping to investigate, police said they learned the man was wanted on outstanding warrants. The man allegedly refused to comply with demands and attempted to evade and prevent his arrest, said police.
As a result of the investigation, police said the 49-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace, obstructing a peace officer, mischief, and two counts of failing to attend court.
None of these charges have been proven in court. The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently released, reported police.
During speed enforcement efforts on July 13, at about 8:40 p.m. in the Division Street area, police allege they clocked a vehicle at 98 km/h in a 50 zone.
As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old was charged with stunt driving, and issued a 30-day licence suspension, said police, adding that the vehicle was also impounded for 14 days.
Police are reminding motorists that speeding not only increases the risk of collisions but also reduces a driver’s ability to react to unexpected situations, putting everyone at risk.
Police continue to encourage all drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and respect speed limits, especially in residential areas, near parks and along waterfront routes where pedestrian traffic remains high.
