A $15,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation is helping the Peterborough Canoe and Kayak Club make paddling more accessible to people of all abilities.
On Monday, Peterborough–Kawartha MPP Dave Smith met with club representatives to view the results of the grant, which helped fund three new boats, a canopy, life vests, and a specialized Kalandor Canoe designed to support small crew training for dragon boat programs.
“The Peterborough Canoe and Kayak Club remains committed to making this sport accessible for everyone,” said Smith. “This is a prime example of how targeted provincial funding can make a real difference in people’s lives.”
The club has expanded programs for Special Olympians, seniors, and those with mobility challenges. Guests at the event were invited to see the new fleet in action on Little Lake and speak with paddlers and volunteers about the growing programming.
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming Stan Cho said organizations like the Peterborough Canoe and Kayak Club deliver “experiences that make a difference,” and that OTF support will help the club remain a key part of the community for years to come.
