Canada Parks Day will again be marked locally in a big way, with the annual Lock and Paddle event returning to the Peterborough Lift Lock.
On July 19th from noon to 4 p.m., a number of events are planned, but the big draw will again be the opportunity to paddle your canoe or kayak into one of the Lift Lock tubs and ascend 65 feet to the top with fellow paddlers.
Paddlers are advised to enter the Trent-Severn Waterway from Little Lake, entering the system via Lock 20 on route to assembly at the base of the historic lift lock.
Parks Canada public relations and communications officer Karen Feeley says the event serves as a reminder that the lift lock isn’t just the domain of larger watercraft.
Feeley notes paddlers really get into the spirit of the event.
Feeley lists a few of the other attractions associated with the day.
