Construction will soon begin on a new affordable housing project in Peterborough’s East City that will provide a safe and accessible home for seven women with disabilities and a live-in caregiver.
Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region will be holding a groundbreaking ceremony this morning at 131 Sophia Street to mark the start of the build. The project is a partnership with Our Daughters’ Home, a local organization that supports women with disabilities.
The new duplex aims to provide long-term stability, safety, and independence for women who are often underserved in the housing market.
Among those in attendance were Habitat PKR Board Chair Hope Lee, Peterborough Mayor Jeff Leal, and Debby Donaghy, treasurer of Our Daughters’ Home and mother of one of the future residents, along with other community supporters.
The build reflects Habitat PKR’s ongoing commitment to addressing local housing needs with inclusive, community-driven solutions.
