A 30-year-old Whitby man is facing multiple charges after police in Cobourg completed an investigation into a retail theft from earlier this year.
According to the Cobourg Police Service, officers began investigating on March 16, 2025, after receiving a report of theft from a business located on Elgin Street West. A man allegedly selected items from the store and left without making any attempt to pay.
Police reviewed surveillance footage and interviewed witnesses, leading to the identification of a suspect. A warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.
On July 3, the suspect was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and failing to comply with probation.
The accused was later released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Police have not released the name of the accused, in keeping with standard practice unless and until the case progresses to a public hearing.
