Adam Scott alumnus and two-time Grammy Award-winning producer Greg Wells has been appointed a Member of the Order of Canada.
The Peterborough native is one of 83 appointees to the order announced Monday (June 30) by Governor General Mary Simon’s office. Wells, who has produced music by the likes of Adele, Celine Dion and Michael Bublé, will be inducted at Ottawa’s Rideau Hall at a later date.
Speaking from his Los Angeles recording studio, Wells said his appointment “is the biggest honour of my life,” noting he first knew something was up when he received a strange email message.
Having made a habit of helping up-and-coming musicians, many of whom he has presented at his Trinity Hall performance space in Winterton, Newfoundland, Wells says it’s nice to be recognized for doing something outside the music business realm.
Currently working on music for the pending release of Wicked 2, Wells says his Order of Canada appointment has left him awestruck.
Since the Order of Canada’s creation in 1967, more than 8,200 people from all sectors of society have been appointed.
