The Town of Cobourg – and Victoria Beach – will once again serve as a backdrop for filming with the return of production crews for the new series “The Greatest.”
Residents may have noticed some changes around town and at the beach – including the painting of beach lifeguard towers – as crews prepare for filming this coming Tuesday, July 8, said the town, in a recent advisory.
The filming is set to start on Tuesday at about 7 a.m. and wrap up at about 2 p.m., with the bulk of activity in the beach and Willmott Street areas, noted town staff.
The series already shot scenes locally earlier this year, including around Victoria Hall and in the King Street area.
This latest visit is to accommodate additional scenes for the series, which is described as a spinoff to the 1977 feature film covering the life of Muhammad Ali.
Reunion MA Production Inc. had crews setting up as of Thursday, July 3 and are continuing preparations through Saturday, July 6. In terms of the repainting of lifeguard towers at the beach, town staff said these towers will return to their original state post-production, and all costs associated with the painting are being covered off by the production company.
On Tuesday, a specific filming zone will be sectioned off at the beach – away from volleyball courts and beachgoers. Shoots in the Willmott Street area will take place between Normar Road and Thompson Street, with some presence also on Normar, noted staff.
No road closures are anticipated during this round of filming. Crew parking for Wilmott Street filming will be on the north side of Normar Road.
During the last round of filming, it was reported that about 150 Canadian crew members and 200 paid background actors were involved.
