During the first two weeks of the “Safer Streets Cobourg” initiative, police say they responded to a total of 660 calls for service, while also making warrant and bail-related arrests, conducting foot patrols and property checks, and more.
The initiative – launched on June 16 – in the words of the Cobourg Police Service aims to foster a more secure and welcoming environment for all residents and visitors.
In a recent release around a two-week update on the program, the service stated the update highlights key developments, community engagement efforts, and the impact of collective work in recent weeks.
The update covered off until June 29, during which time, police said they conducted 58 foot patrols and 99 property checks. Officers also reportedly responded to 34 trespass-related calls and made nine warrant and bail compliance arrests.
Police also said there were 11 drug-related charges laid during their efforts, including one for possession and eight related to trafficking, as well as six Liquor Licence Control Act charges.
At the launch of the program, auxiliary unit members were also conducting high-visibility patrols and visiting downtown businesses to raise awareness about crime prevention initiatives like the trespass authority agent program and community camera registry program.
Residents can learn more about these services and other crime prevention resources, as well as online reporting options, via the service’s website.
