Here is your local sports report for Thursday, July 3.
The Jr A Lakers continued their winning ways with a 13-4 win over the Brampton Excelsiors last night. The team is now riding a four-game win streak and sits in sixth place with just three regular season games remaining. With the standings still tight, the Lakers could finish anywhere between third and seventh. They’re back in action tomorrow night in Brampton.
The Peterborough Petes selected three forwards in yesterday’s CHL Import Draft, picking Austria’s Leon Kolarik at 63rd overall, Switzerland’s Yanis Lutz at 109, and Melvin Fernström of Sweden at 121. Fernström is a Pittsburgh Penguins prospect, while Kolarik and Lutz have both represented their national teams.
Rival clubs will go head-to-head tonight at Trent University as the Kawartha Lacrosse U15 team takes on the Oshawa Lady Blue Knights. Game time is 7:30 at Justin Chiu Stadium.
And it’s game night for the Senior Lakers as they host Owen Sound. Peterborough is looking to snap a three-game losing skid — their longest regular season drought since 2013. Despite the slide, a win tonight would move the Lakers into second place.
