The Municipality of Port Hope is advising residents that Choate Road is now closed for a long-term period as part of a major Ministry of Transportation (MTO) infrastructure project near Highway 401.
The closure began Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Signage has been installed throughout the affected area, and residents are encouraged to stay up to date through Ministry of Transportation channels, as updates will be shared as they become available.
To support the roadwork, the Municipality will receive asphalt grindings at no cost – a byproduct that can be repurposed to help resurface local roads. Municipal staff say the material will be transported overnight to reduce traffic disruptions, and the work will be closely monitored.
Residents who have questions about the project can contact the engineering leads:
Jeff King, McIntosh Perry Consulting Engineers Ltd., at 1-888-348-8991 or jeff.king@egis-group.com
Lee Collins, P.Eng, MTO – Project Delivery East, at lee.collins@ontario.ca
This project is part of a broader investment in transportation infrastructure, and Port Hope officials say they remain committed to keeping the public informed every step of the way.
