Temporary road closures and on-street parking restrictions will be in effect July 1 in downtown Peterborough to support the annual Canada Day Parade and festivities
To ensure public safety and facilitate the parade staging and route, the following streets will be closed:
George Street North from McDonnel Street to Murray Street, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Murray Street between George Street North and Water Street, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
George Street North from Murray Street to King Street, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
King Street from George Street North to Millennium Park, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
A portion of Simcoe Street east of Charlotte Street near Millennium Park, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (to accommodate a refreshment area)
Pre-parade activities begin at 10 a.m. outside City Hall, 500 George St. N., featuring a decorated bicycle contest and opening remarks. Cake will be served as part of the celebrations.
The Canada Day Parade starts at 11 a.m., heading south along George Street to Millennium Park. Community celebrations continue throughout the day with live performances, family-friendly activities, food vendors, and fireworks over Little Lake at 9:30 p.m.
The City invites residents to join a free outdoor screening of Fly Away Home on Monday, June 30, at Quaker Foods City Square, 215 Charlotte St. Quaker Foods is generously donating snacks and treats, and the City will provide free popcorn. Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 8 p.m. as supplies are limited. Please bring a chair and water. The movie starts at dusk.

Road users and pedestrians are asked to use alternate routes during closures and to follow all posted signage and barricades related to parking restrictions and road closures. Parking enforcement begins at 6 a.m. on July 1.
Vehicles parked in prohibited areas may be ticketed, towed, or impounded. For information about towing and impound locations, call the City of Peterborough Municipal Law Enforcement and Security Services Division at 705-707-3969 on the next business day.
