A 19-year-old Brighton resident is facing charges after emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle crash, says Northumberland OPP.
Police, Cramahe firefighters and paramedics responded to a report of a collision on Trent Valley Drive just before 3 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2025, said police.
Upon arrival, crews found the vehicle on its roof and off the roadway, and officers initiated an impaired driving investigation, said OPP.
The sole occupant was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, added police.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 19-year-old man from the Municipality of Brighton was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and failure or refusal to comply with a demand.
None of these charges have been proven in court. The accused will appear in Cobourg court in July.
In addition to a future court date, the accused had their licence suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Northumberland OPP is again reminding citizens that failing to provide a suitable sample of breath or blood following an officer’s demand carries the same consequences as operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus.)
Police also continue to ask citizens if they know or suspect someone is driving impaired to call 911 and continue to urge motorists to make responsible choices when behind the wheel.
