
The Port Hope Police Service has released an update following a sudden death investigation launched Friday, June 14, in the area of Bedford Street.
Emergency services responded to a report of a missing elderly man. Officers later located the individual in a body of water behind a nearby property. Police say he was found without vital signs, and despite the immediate efforts of officers and paramedics to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at Northumberland Hills Hospital.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and is being conducted in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner. However, at this time, investigators do not believe foul play was involved. The incident is being treated as isolated and there is no threat to public safety.
The identity of the deceased is not being released out of respect for the family’s privacy.
