A sexual assault investigation by the Northumberland OPP crime unit has led to the arrest of a 51-year-old Brighton man, say police.
Back in May 2025, police said an investigation was launched following a report of an alleged sexual assault believed to have occurred in late 2023.
The victim was known to the accused at this time, said police.
Earlier this month, police have confirmed that a 51-year-old Brighton man was arrested and charged with sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age.
This charge has not been proven in court.
The accused isn’t being named to protect the identity of the victim, added police.
Northumberland OPP is reminding the public that there is no statute of limitations on sexual offences, and a report can be made to police at any time, regardless of how much time has passed.
Reports can be made by calling OPP 1-888-310-1122 or 911 in an emergency.
“If you do not want to make a report to police or need time and support to make that decision, there are community partners available to help,” reiterated OPP, while citing the Ontario 211 resource, which can help people with community, social, health and government-related services.
