Northumberland County says they’ll commence the rehabilitation of the Burnley Creek Bridge in Warkworth on August 6, 2024.
This project is crucial for maintaining the safety and connectivity of the local road network.
The bridge, built in 1959, will undergo significant improvements, including replacing concrete handrails with metal railings, installing new guardrails, waterproofing the deck, and repairing the concrete structure.
The ten-week construction period will see the bridge closed to all traffic, with a detour via Old Hastings Road and County Road 29. Speed limits on surrounding roads will be adjusted to ensure safety for workers and motorists.
“The rehabilitation of Burnley Creek Bridge will help maintain community connectivity for the local road network in Warkworth,” said Denise Marshall, County Director of Public Works.
This project is part of Northumberland County’s Asset Management Plan, which guides infrastructure investments across the region.
Residents can track bridge conditions and project progress using the County’s interactive map.
