The Ontario Agri-Food Venture Centre (OAFVC) in Colborne is cooking up a special event for this weekend.
The open-house-style event will showcase the innovative food business facility and supports available, said Northumberland County, while extending an invitation to food entrepreneurs, farmers and the community to visit during the open house this Saturday.
At the event, people can discover the unique possibilities created at the innovative food processing facility, said the county.
“Attendees will have the opportunity to tour Ontario’s leading shared-use consumer packaged goods (CPG) food processing facility and learn about how the OAFVC supports food entrepreneurs from Northumberland County and across Ontario,” reads a recent advisory.
The open house is a free public event set for Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The OAFVC is at 216 Purdy Rd., Colborne.
The OAFVC is described as an innovative small-batch food processing facility that helps food entrepreneurs and farmers bring “Made in Ontario” products to market.
Expert staff provide business development support to help food entrepreneurs with launching or expanding their businesses. Ultimately, the facility is designed, built and staffed to serve as “launchpad” as food entrepreneurs move into the next phase of business growth.
The facility offers food entrepreneurs access to industry-leading food processing equipment, cold, dry and frozen food-safe storage facilities, and provides opportunities for local farmers to find sustainable solutions for excess fruits and vegetables, noted county officials.
At the event, visitors can ask questions about recipe development, business startups, scaling up product creation, and more, while also learning about services and touring the facilities.
