Residents of the rural ward in Port Hope made their voices heard and have elected Darrell Toms as the newest member of Port Hope council.
Out of a total of 1,248 votes, the certified results specify that Toms won with 482, second to Louise Ferrie-Blecher with 412. These numbers reflect a voter turnout of 32.8 per cent in Ward 2.
Toms candidate profile states he was running for council to passionately champion the rural community and that because of his deep roots — spanning four generations — Port Hope is not just a place to him, but his home.
The profile also highlights his commitment to responsible planning and prudent fiscal management, which he believes will ensure the community’s prosperity for generations to come.
Toms will officially be sworn in on June 12, 2024 during a special meeting at council chambers at town hall.
