How do you pick up the pieces of a life that’s been destroyed by a false accusation of sexual assault?
That’s the question facing 36-year-old former Educational Assistant Ashley Jansen who was acquitted on all charges following a 14 month-long rollercoaster ride of emotions.
Jansen told us a bit about the trial.
The judge didn’t take long to render a verdict in the case. Jansen was found was found not guilty of sexual assault and sexual interference in an Oshawa courtroom on Friday November 24, 2023.
For the Jansens who live just north of Cobourg, the verdict does little to compensate for 14 months of ostracization, the loss of Ashley’s job, the costs related to lawyers and private investigators as well as the trauma faced by a family who’s mother was wrenched away for a month for the children’s safety.
Ashley shared her feelings on learning she would be separated from her 5 children.
Ashley and Ken now are working to let others know about the unforeseen consequences they faced with the hopes of saving others from a similar fate.
We asked Jansen about her thoughts on her career as an Educational Assistant.
