Hailing from Pembroke Ontario, Sierra has been making waves in the music scene with her unique sound and talent, something she’s been working on since she was 7 years old performing on stages in the Ottawa Valley area. At 18, Levesque has a remarkably mature and realistic view of the music industry.
Sierra’s debut single, “Get off my Stage,” was first played this week on myFM stations across Ontario as well as FREQ 90.5 in Peterborough. Levesque told us about hearing her song on the radio for the first time this past Monday.
Sierra told us she grew up listening to iconic bands from the 70s and 80s, such as Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses, and more, thanks to her father’s musical taste. This early exposure ignited her passion for rock songs, and she began learning to play instruments, paving the way for her own musical career.
When asked about her female rock inspirations, Sierra pointed to Anne and Nancy Wilson of Heart, as well as The Runaways’ Joan Jett and Lita Ford. She mentioned that she aims to blend Anne’s vocal prowess with Nancy’s guitar skills in her own music.
Sierra’s debut single, “Get off my Stage,” was born during the COVID-19 pandemic. Inspired by the rise of rapper-turned-rockstar Machine Gun Kelly and his public feuds, she decided to create a diss track, showcasing her authenticity in the Rock genre.
“Get off my Stage” is currently in rotation now on myFM and also available on various music platforms, including iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and SoundCloud, allowing listeners to experience Sierra’s bold musical statement.
Sierra told us she selected the single based on feedback she’d received on social media.
To catch Sierra Leveque live, fans can follow her on social media platforms, where she goes by the username “SierraLevequeMusic.” She also maintains a website, “sierralevequemusic.com,” where fans can stay updated on her upcoming shows, releases, and more. Sierra told us about two upcoming performances, one of which is in Durham Region.
With 19 fully recorded songs in her repertoire, Sierra plans to release one or two more singles, followed by the possibility of an EP or album.
The singer-songwriter draws inspiration from her own life experiences, often channeling her emotions into her music. She shared that her best songwriting moments occur when she’s feeling intense emotions, whether it’s anger, sadness, or loneliness. Late-night sessions with her guitar often lead to the creation of her most heartfelt songs.
We asked Sierra what was the best advice she’d received in regards to starting out in the music business.
Sierra’s unique talent extends beyond her singing and songwriting. She is a multi-instrumentalist, playing drums, piano, bass, guitar, synthesizer, and handling background vocals in her songs. Her ability to manage every aspect of her music production is a testament to her versatility as an artist.
She is particularly fond of the guitar and piano, with the guitar taking the top spot as her favorite instrument, but only because vocals aren’t really considered an instrument in the conventional sense. She loves layering tracks and has even created a choir sound by using 60 tracks of her own making. Her dedication to honing her skills is evident in her impressive performances.
We asked Sierra where things stood now that her single was gaining air play.
Sierra’s debut single “Get off my Stage” and her upcoming music promise to make waves in the rock music scene, and fans can anticipate an exciting journey ahead for this talented artist.
