A new, 64,000 square foot multi-use recreation facility featuring an ice pad, aquatic centre, fitness centre and a variety of health and wellness programming to be delivered by YMCA Northumberland will open in fall of 2024.
Trent Hills Mayor Bob Crate told us it’s been a long time coming.
It is a 16 million project, with contributions from the Ontario government, the Federal government, the Municipality of Trent Hills and public sponsorship. The planning of this project started in May 2021, construction started this spring and the centre will be completed in the fall of 2024.
According to Mayor Crate, Northumberland YMCA will be a partner in delivering programming to Trent Hills.
This facility will be constructed in the Campbellford Business Park, just off County Road 30 and it will provide residents and surrounding communities with improved access to modern recreational facilities. The arena will replace the 54-year-old Campbellford-Seymour Arena which was constructed in 1967. The building will have an NHL-sized rink, a lane pool, therapy pool, fitness room and multipurpose room.
“This centre is the culmination of years of work and planning to bring this new asset to our community,” said Mayor Bob Crate – Municipality of Trent Hills.
The Mayor says Trent Hills has been experiencing a boom recently.
In May 2023 Council approved a Naming Rights Agreement with Sunny Life Properties Inc. This Northumberland County based property development company with two active developments in Campbellford has entered into a 15 year agreement to secure naming rights to the new facility.
“I want to thank Sunny Life Properties Inc. for coming forward with this sponsorship and investing in our community,” added Crate. “With the support of Sunny Life Properties this new facility is one step closer to being completely funded. We are very pleased with this partnership and excited to open the Sunny Life Recreation and Wellness Centre to our residents.”
The Sunny Life Recreation and Wellness Centre will be located on Seymour Quarry Road just south of Campbellford and open to the public in the fall of 2024. For more information about the new centre, visit Municipality of Trent Hills.
