The Brighton Auxiliary Rescue Unit will be working with the U.S. Coastal Guard this season to make sure boaters are safe on all of Lake Ontario.
Interim Executive Director of Brighton Marine Group Len Kuipers explains as this support comes in, the team’s already put plenty of time into training the 30 volunteers they have this season before traffic picks up.
Kuipers also says one of the biggest challenges they’re facing is rooted in the lack of funding they can offer during volunteer time.
While the team’s off to a bright start after opening in April, they’ll be making web initiatives to support their need for funding in the future.
With the U.S. Coastal Guard supporting Brighton’s team, direction turns to supporting central Lake Ontario while heavy boating season lurks in the months ahead.
