Emilio Ojeda will be the guest speaker on March 22nd at the Campbellford Public Library from 6 to 8 pm.
Originally from Caracas – Venezuela, Ojeda graduated as a Business Administrator with majors in Commercial Sciences and Business management. Emilio is currently the Settlement Services Coordinator for Northumberland County and has been a LGBTQ2S+ activist since 2000.
His talk will focus on getting older as a member of the LGBTQ community.
Emilio tells us that aging is different for everyone.
He works to bring attention to the issues that the +LGBTQ community faces, such as discrimination and hate crimes.
Ojeda feels it’s important to share his experiences, the good and the bad, to help others on their journey.
Those who identify as LGBTQ2S+ face challenges that are different than their straight neighbours.
Ojeda’s talk will also touch on some common misconceptions that the LGBTQ2S+ community face.
Volunteering his time to help with pride week events, leading workshops, and providing mentorship are just some of the ways Emilio works to make the path easier for those who follow.
This YMCA Northumberland series of presentations is meant to empower community residents with first-hand information on major social challenges and is made possible thanks to a generous grant from District 30 Northumberland of RTOERO.
