Police say that the newly installed CCTV equipment lines were cut by what appears to be a reciprocating saw sometime late November 9th or early on November 10th.
Installed on University Street, the equipment is the latest addition to the CCTV Community Safety Network which enables rapid, post-event response for victim identification and crime prevention.
The new equipment is part of a 25-camera mesh that covers the downtown core.
Cobourg Police Service received $200,000 from the Province in November of 2020 through the Ontario Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) grant program to support the Community Safety Network.
“The locations of the CCTV cameras are determined through crime data analysis. The CCTV cameras allow police to have rapid post-event response for victims of crime and ensure we are doing all we can to keep the community safe,” said Chief Paul VandeGraaf, Cobourg Police Service. “It is clear that someone does not want police in this area. The damaged equipment will be replaced and re-installed today.”
