The Cobourg Scottish Festival and Highland Games return this weekend.
The Scottish have played a significant role in the development of Canada from early explorers and settlers to politicians, ministers and men of business, and wherever they went, they took their love of music and dance, drink and battle tests with them…and called it The Highland Games.
In 1963 Davey Carr founded the first Highland Games in Cobourg and it’s been an annual event ever since.
George Cackette, President of the Cobourg Highland Games told us what to expect of the tattoo on Friday night.
Saturday will provide a full day’s entertainment with the Solo Piping and Drumming, and Heavy Events competitions, starting at 8 am.
The Welcoming Ceremonies will begin at approximately 11.45 am with the Massed Pipe Bands.
All afternoon the Pipe Band competitions will proceed with all grades competing, and the Heavy Event competitions will continue.
At the Bandshell there will be Highland Dancing.
Cackette told us that COVID was a problem particularly for booking Pipe Bands.
There are also Ceilidhs on both Friday and Saturday night so be sure to check Cobourg Highland Games – Home | Facebook for details.
