If you meet up with a bear, knowing what to do is being Bear-Wise.
Make noise when your in wooded areas, especially when near a streams or waterfalls where bears might not hear you.
Singing, whistling or talking helps alert bears to your presence but DON’T wear headphones.
Always be aware of your surroundings and watch for signs of a bear like tracks, droppings or claw marks on trees.
And if you’re out with a dog, keep it on a leash. Dogs can actually lead a bear to you.
Bears live in most parts of Ontario, so it pays to be careful when you’re back country or just at the cottage.
