Municipality of Port Hope, the Township of Hamilton, and the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand has officially transferred all animal control duties over to the Northumberland Humane Society.
They join Cobourg, who left the joint agreement in favour of the humane society in 2020. The remaining three had been considering other animal care and enforcement options since then.
They’ve entered into a five-year term that will deliver animal control, enforcement, and care, just as the humane society does across various municipalities in Ontario.
The deal also acknowledges that the Humane Society doesn’t euthanize animals but will work to save an animal’s life.
