If you do a lot of shopping online in local groups, there’s been a few people in the area reporting scammers.
Port Hope Police are warning residents about several frauds they’ve investigated recently involving online platforms such as Facebook Marketplace, and Kijiji.
In all instances very few questions were asked of the seller about the product.
Police say the seller creates a sense of urgency, offers a low price, and then asks for a deposit via e-transfer to hold the item.
Police are advising everyone not to fall victim to these scams, and never send money online via e-transfer.
