A request to temporarily expand a patio into the parking lot at George and Orange gastropub in downtown Cobourg has been accepted by Cobourg council.
Owner Jenna Fitzgerald asked for an exemption to the parking provision of a zoning bylaw to accommodate the patio expansion at 67 Orange St.
She told council that the restaurant has been closed since December due to the size of their indoor dining area.
The gastro pub had to shut down and that has had a dramatic impact on the business, just like many other businesses in Northumberland.
She said George and Orange had great success with the expanded parking lot patio in last year.
When they opened it in July of last year they were able to keep it business going until December 19th.
Fitzgerald acknowledged that the success they experienced was due to the community’s support .
