The OPP have arrested two more impaired drivers in Northumberland.
Last Wednesday morning (Sept 30) around 6:30 am, officers received information from a fellow motorist, of a SUV using hazard lights in the south side ditch of Highway 401, just east of Percy Street in Cramahe Township. Officers found the driver, 49-year-old Michelle Maxwell from Oshawa, to be under the influence of alcohol. She was charged with Operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus and Operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs.
Then on Thursday (Oct 1) around 8 am, a concerned motorists called police regarding a pick-up truck that was unable to maintain travelling in a marked lane westbound on County Road 2 just before Grafton. At approximately 8:15 am, police were then notified of a grey pick-up truck in the eastside ditch on Shelter valley Road near Jiggs Road just south of the Highway 401 overpass. Officers detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver. 44-year-old Shane Reymes of Clarington was then arrested and charged with Operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs and Operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
Both of the accused received an immediate 90 day licence suspension and the vehicles they were driving were towed and impounded. They will face their charges in Cobourg court at a later date.
The OPP would like to remind motorists that highway safety is a shared responsibility. If you choose to consume alcohol or drugs, plan ahead to ensure that yourself and others travelling our roadways arrive home safely.
