Two individuals have been charged with impaired driving in Brighton.
On Monday (Aug 17), the Northumberland OPP charged two motor vehicle operators within 24 hours of eachother.
At midnight, an officer observed a Blue Nissan SUV travelling westbound on County Road 2 just west of Brighton. The vehicle was being driven in a manner that indicated the driver may possibly be impaired. The SUV was stopped as it turned onto Simpson Street. The officer found the driver to be under the influence of alcohol. As a result of the investigation, 41-year-old Daniel Avila of Scarborough was arrested and charged with Operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
Then at 10:45 pm, officers stopped a blue Kia four door hatchback sedan after it was observed having difficulty navigating a bend and hitting a curb on George Street. The officer administered a roadside screening device test which the driver failed. The driver was arrested and then transported back to the OPP detachment in Brighton for further testing. 43-year-old Ryan Hunt of Brighton was charged with Operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
Both of the accused received an immediate 90 day licence suspension and the vehicles they were driving were towed and impounded.
They were both released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Cobourg court in October.
The OPP would like to remind motorists that highway safety is a shared responsibility. If you choose to consume alcohol or drugs, plan ahead to ensure that yourself and others travelling our roadways arrive home safely.
