Habitat for Humanity Northumberland moved a house from Courthouse Road to Daintry Crescent this morning (July 22).
The existing house, owned by Northumberland County, has been donated to Habitat Northumberland to convert into affordable housing.
Habitat Northumberland moved the house, that was located at 575 Courthouse Road in Cobourg, to 600 Daintry Crescent, placed on a new foundation, will renovate the home, and then sell it as an affordable home to a local family.
Northumberland County’s CEO, Jennifer Moore, tells us the land on Courthouse Road will now be used for the new Golden Plough Lodge.
The land was sold to Habitat at an affordable rate by the Town of Cobourg.
Meaghan Macdonald Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity Northumberland, tells us more about this collaboration and how exciting it is to be able to get back to work.
The future homeowners for this home, Naomi and her two sons, will be returning to Cobourg after living in Castleton. During the groundbreaking in January (2020), she told us they’re very excited for the move.
If you’re interested in becoming an affordable home owner, Macdonald tells us more about how you do so.
Volunteers will be needed to help renovate the home now that its been moved on the property. For more information on how to volunteer for this build project contact Melissa Cranston, Community Engagement Coordinator (289-252-0999 ext. 29, volunteer@habitatnorthumberland.ca) or visit www.habitatnorthumberland.ca
