Community Care Northumberland is launching its 10th annual Adopt-a-Grandparent campaign, inviting residents to help bring holiday cheer to seniors across the county who may be experiencing loneliness or social isolation.
The program matches community members with older adults to provide thoughtful gifts during the holiday season. More than 130 seniors benefited from the initiative last year.
Chief Executive Officer Jordan Prosper says the campaign creates smiles among recipients while bringing together families, volunteers and staff in a shared effort to make the holidays brighter.
Residents interested in participating can contact Community Care at 1-866-514-5774 or wellness@commcare.ca.
Gifts can be dropped off unwrapped, in gift bags or baskets, at the organization’s offices in Campbellford, Brighton or Cobourg by Dec. 4. Monetary donations are also welcome, allowing staff to purchase gifts on behalf of donors.
Suggested items include local store gift cards, handmade scarves and mittens with washing instructions, and gift certificates for Community Care services such as Meals on Wheels and transportation. Homemade baked goods are not being accepted.
Volunteers will begin delivering gifts to seniors on Dec. 16.
