The Brighton Vikings are off to an impressive start in their inaugural Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League season, establishing themselves as one of the top teams in the South Division.
As of Nov. 3, Brighton holds an 11-1 record through its first 12 games, sitting second in the division with 22 points, just behind the undefeated Northumberland Stars.
Brighton’s latest 11-2 victory over Durham saw defenceman Marcus Forbes scoring his first goal of the season, who says it’s the fundamentals coming together for everyone on the team that make all the difference on the ice.
The Vikings continued their strong play through October, recording several convincing victories, including a 9-0 road win over the Durham Roadrunners and a 14-4 triumph over Richmond Hill on Oct. 31.
Brighton has also demonstrated plenty of offensive firepower, averaging 7.67 goals per game, the third-best mark in the league, while allowing an average of just 2.67 goals.
Forbes goes on to say that a big part of the team’s success so far this season is the fact that everyone is on the same page, and they’ve already developed a reputation for perseverance on the ice.
Forward Marrek Hennessy says the amount of practice the team puts in is a big factor in maintaining peak form.
Hennessy gives coach Sicard credit for leading the team in a positive direction as a unit while still paying attention to individual players. He says that approach is reflected in the team’s locker-room attitude and on-ice performance.
The Vikings are back in action this coming Saturday when they take on Toronto.
