Cobourg police have laid several charges following a series of unrelated incidents reported over a two-day period.
On Oct. 28, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at Elgin Street East and Birchwood Trail around 6 p.m. Two people were taken to hospital as a precaution. One driver was charged with careless driving, and both vehicles were towed.
Later that evening, police investigated a report of two people entering an unoccupied vehicle near John and James streets. A 44-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 from a motor vehicle. He was released with a future court date.
The following afternoon, police stopped a vehicle near Campbell Street and University Street after receiving a report of a possible impaired driver. A 20-year-old Cobourg man was charged with impaired operation and having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams. His vehicle was impounded, and he was released with a future court date.
In a separate investigation, a 58-year-old Cobourg man is facing multiple charges following an intimate partner violence incident.
Police say officers responded to a disturbance at a local residence Oct. 13, where a verbal dispute between a couple allegedly escalated into an assault on a woman. A second person who intervened was also assaulted. Minor injuries were reported.
Cobourg police are reminding the public to call 911 if they suspect someone is driving while impaired and to always arrange a safe ride home.
