Northumberland County is extending its leaf and yard waste collection program with two additional pickup dates in December for residents in collection areas 3 and 4.
The extra collections will take place Dec. 7 for households with regular Monday and Wednesday pickups, as well as residents in Port Hope’s rural ward. Those with Tuesday and Thursday schedules will have collection on Dec. 14.
Residents are asked to place materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on their designated Monday, with collection taking place sometime during that week.
Leaves and grass clippings must be placed in paper yard-waste bags weighing less than 44 pounds. Bags should be securely closed to keep materials dry and prevent them from blowing away.
Brush must be tied into bundles no longer than three feet, with individual branches no more than two inches in diameter.
The seasonal program will pause after December and resume in April.
