Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland says his second term will focus on economic growth, transparency and financial accountability, including closer involvement with the town’s police services board.
Cleveland won Monday’s mayoral race, with more than 51 per cent voter turnout. He says his first four years focused on improving municipal operations and balancing the budget, while the next term will emphasize growth and implementation.
Cleveland says he regrets not joining the police services board earlier, particularly as the department faces financial scrutiny. Police spending is already $1.5 million over budget this year, with the shortfall projected to reach $2 million by year-end.
He says he plans to join the board when it is reconstituted in November and supports a forensic audit of police finances.
Cleveland also plans to continue pushing for responsible budgeting, safer streets and greater transparency for taxpayers.
