A 12-year-old youth has been charged with sexual assault following an investigation by Cobourg police.
The Cobourg Police Service says its Criminal Investigation Bureau opened an investigation in September after receiving information that a youth had been sexually assaulted in the town.
The accused was arrested Oct. 23 and released on an undertaking under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. A court appearance is scheduled for a later date.
Police say sexual offences can be prosecuted regardless of how much time has passed and encourage anyone who has experienced sexual assault to come forward.
