Northumberland County is wrapping up an approximately $11-million infrastructure program that has delivered road, bridge and intersection improvements across the region during the 2026 construction season.
Director of Public Works Denise Marshall says the work represents an important investment in transportation infrastructure used daily by residents and businesses. Funding came from provincial and federal sources, reserves and the municipal levy.
Among the major projects was the completion of intersection improvements at County Roads 2, 10 and 74 in Welcome. The upgrades include pedestrian crossings, flashing signals and improved street lighting to address safety concerns and traffic confusion.
In Brighton, reconstruction of County Road 64 between Elizabeth and Harbour streets included replacing underground water and sewer infrastructure, along with new curbs, asphalt and cycling facilities. Work will pause at the end of November, with crews returning in 2027.
Bridge rehabilitation on County Road 30 north of Campbellford remains on schedule and budget, while a culvert replacement south of Warkworth is expected to finish in mid-November.
The county also completed road rehabilitation in other areas, including Grafton and County Road 30 between the eighth and 11th lines. A planned culvert replacement near Hastings has been postponed until 2027 because of material supply issues.
The county reports approximately seven kilometres of paving, 11 kilometres of microsurfacing, 12 kilometres of crack sealing and 16 kilometres of surface treatment were undertaken this year.
